Nathalie Guarracino was born and
grew up in the Cevennes Mountain region of southern France. From
a young age she revealed a passion for drawing and painting, spending
hours working in pencils, pastels, and gouaches on paper.
She moved to the US at the age of 22 where she graduated from Rutgers
University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts with a BFA focusing
on painting. While at Rutgers she was awarded the Caroline Wagenseller
Prize — first prize for excellence in the visual arts. Guarracino
studied with well-known NYC painters Emma Amos and Joan Semmel,
and sculptors Gary Kuehn and Melvin Edwards.
Upon graduation she moved to New York City. Her studio is currently
located in midtown Manhattan.
Working primarily with oil on canvas, Guarracino takes her inspiration
from the contrast between the natural and the industrial, the kinetic
and the static, the light and the dark. She is captivated by the
combination of these different textures, colors, and dynamics. “I
look to unite by dividing and to harmonize by setting up tensions.”
Nathalie Guarracino has exhibited throughout the US and France.
She was featured in a 1999 documentary by Nelsena Burt. Her work
is in collections in both North America and Europe.
